A symbol embracing and welcoming immigrants?

Senior White House aide Stephen Miller clashed with CNN’s Jim Acosta on Trump’s proposed immigration reform. They got into an argument about the poem on the Statue of Liberty. Jim Acosta read a line of the poem at the Statue of Liberty which is a national symbol for the country’s welcome and embrace of immigrants. He read a line of the New Colossus that is etched into the base of the Statue of Liberty: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses”. Mr Miller said that the poem was a symbol of American Liberty lighting the world and suggested it had little to do with immigrants. He said that the poem was added later. Jim commented and asked “Between the wall and the proposed merit based immigration reform, you want to bring about a sweeping change to the immigration system?”
